Sparrow operates from a Christian perspective. Our faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, Who died for our sins, is the motive for our work. Sparrow gives support to people regardless their religious, political or ethnical background. However, Sparrow wants to show its motive to help by telling people God gives everlasting life to anyone who believes in Jesus. This is the most beautiful gift you can get, meaning much more than any aid.
The name Sparrow originates from our Christian background. In the Bible the sparrow symbolizes Gods love and care for the least of all. “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid, you are worth more than many sparrows.” – Matthew 10:29-31.
In biblical times the sparrow was the most inexpensive item you could buy on the market. It served as food for the poor. So the sparrow was almost worthless. However, in this part of the Bible Jesus says God knows what happens to the sparrow, not even one falls down to the ground if the Father does not want it to and we are worth much more than sparrows. This is a great comfort to us. To God we are of value and He is involved in our lives. When you are poor a lot of people look down on you. Often you are living in miserable circumstances. Your clothes are not nice, but filled with holes, maybe you are a bit dirty, because you are not living in tidy places and often you also have dirty little wounds. People give you the cold shoulder, they do not want to come near you. Nevertheless God looks after you and to Him you are of great value. Much more than a swarm of sparrows, of which not even one falls down without God knowing it. God knows you much better, He even knows the number of hairs you have on your head. Sparrow wants to show this love of God through its projects. |

Sparrow is a Dutch Christian organization, situated in the Philippines. We provide people with practical and structural help to escape from poverty and to improve their standard of living. Sparrow does this in such a way people are able to maintain this standard of living themselves, without being dependent on aid. To achieve this Sparrow will carry out several projects, which help people seize their opportunities. Among other things these projects provide access to basic facilities like education, health care and food.
